13 Importance of 40 Days After Death in Islam
At the time I didnt have a better understanding of Islam, compared to now. Now, when I try to tell members of my family that what they do is wrong, they feel Im being led astray by what I read on the Internet! Can you kindly explain to me how I can convince my family to stop doing this? Jazakallah Kheir. There may be some grammatical and spelling errors in the above statement.
The forum does not change anything from questions, comments and statements received from our readers for circulation in confidentiality. Burial and rituals. Whoever Allah guides none can misguide, and whoever He allows to fall astray, none can guide them aright.
We bear witness that there is no one no idol, no person, no grave, no prophet, no imam, no dai, nobody! When one amongst the noble companions or family members of the Prophet saws passed away, the absolute first thing the Prophet saws would do upon hearing the news would be to declare the statement: Inna lillahe wa inna ilayhe rajeoon From Allah we have come, and to Him Alone is our return.
He saws encouraged the believers to visit the bereaved family of the deceased and encouraged that close friends and neighbors provide food for the immediate family, preferably for a period of three days. Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 2. I went to Um Habiba, the wife of Prophet sawswho said, "I heard the Prophet saws saying, 'It is not lawful for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for any dead person for more than three days, except for her husband, for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days'.
The Messenger of Allah saws guided that it was not lawful for the believers to mourn for any deceased for more than three days except for a widow, whose period of mourning is four months and ten days. It is encouraged that the believers visit the bereaved family members of the deceased during this period, provide them with food, share in their grief, guide them towards patience and constancy, and help them in whatever way possible. Other than the above, there is absolutely no example of the Prophet saws ever allowing or encouraging the reading of khatams, or allowing the reciting of Quls, or specifying further days or any kinds of rituals like the 4 th9 th10 th30 th40 th days of mourning, or feeding, or doing any ritual for or in the name of the deceased!
All such rituals like the Khatams, the Quls, the fatihah feeding, etc. The believers who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day must fear Allah, and strive to follow only the example of the Messenger of Allah saws ; and strive their utmost to absolutely abstain from following any and all innovations. That the Prophet of Allah saws said in a sermon: The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed saws.
The most evil affairs are the innovations bidaand every innovation bida is an error. That the Prophet of Allah saws said: If anyone introduces an innovation bida in religionhe will be responsible for it.
If anyone introduces an innovation bida or gives shelter to a man who introduces an innovation bidahe is cursed by Allah, by His Angels, and by all the people! Your Question: Can you kindly explain to me how I can convince my family to stop doing this?
Dear and beloved brother in Islam, one amongst the most difficult things to do is to try to stop or discourage people who are ignorant of the Laws of Islam, from doing an innovated rite or ritual! Nothing discharges more turmoil and arguments and ill-will than when one tries to stop or discourage an innovated act, or rite, or ritual in Islam; thus as much as those who sincerely fear Allah must remain absolutely firm and steadfast in following only what is prescribed and allowed in the authentic practice and Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah sawsone must be absolutely careful and prudent not to start an argument or fight or fitnah amongst the believers.
I heard the Messenger of Allah saws as saying: He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue; and if he has not strength enough to do it, even then he should abhor it from his heart and that is the least of faith.
If you are in a position of authority in the family you are the father or respected elder of the family where the death has taken placethen it would be your duty in Islam to bring an immediate end to any and all innovations that you see are taking place in your house or area of responsibility. That would be fulfilling the command of the Prophet saws to modify the evil with your hand or by force.
If you are not in a position of authority in the family, but have access to the person who has the final authority in the family. If the person in authority heeds to your advice and stops the innovations, fine; and if the person in authority refuses to heed to your good caution and wishes to continue doing the innovations, you would have fulfilled your duty in warning him.
In absolutely all cases and situations, under no circumstances, should you yourself and those who are under your immediate authority like wife, children, etc.It has been a tradition in society, if there is a death in family, many guests come to our home at night. If there are some people who say that the determination that in the 7th, 40 th, th and so on come from Hindu, it is exactly wrong. Because in a hadith from al-Hafizh Ibnu Hajar al-Asqalani, we may to determine special times to do that good deeds and do it continuously.
On that day, Hindus do many polytheism actions and vices. In a book of hadith, it is explained that :. Based on the hadith above, that thing is allowed or mubah. It is something that if we do it, we will not get rewards and sins. If we leave it, we will not get rewards and sins, too. It means that determining special date does not get rewards.
We will get rewards if that date is filled by good deeds, such as dhikr. Even, Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal in the book od az-Zuhd stated that shadaqah during seven days is a sunnah deed, because it is a prayer form to the died people who is tested in the grave during seven days.
In the hadith of Ibn Umar r. By arranging 40 days death, we can strengthen hospitality with others who come to our house. They intentionally spend their time to visit and pray for the dead person. Some scholars say it is forty 40 days, others say it is sixty 60 days and some say there is no limit to the maximum number of days a woman can be a in a state of nifaas. The most predominate opinion is that the maximum period is forty 40 days according to what is narrated by Umm Salama. Umm Salama said "The nufasaa' a woman in a state of birth blood discharge used to continue to be in childbed for forty days at the time of the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him.
Al-Tirmidhi reported: "It is unanimously agreed upon among religious scholars from the sahaabah companions of the Prophetpeace and blessings be upon him and al-taabi'oon those who had met only a companion of the Prophetbut not the Prophet himself that the nufasaa' does not pray for forty days unless she sees tuhr blood stoppage before the end of the forty days period.
She should then perform ghusl ablution of the whole body and she resumes praying. The majority of the religious scholars say that a woman does pray even If she continues to notice blood after the forty days period expires and this is the opinion of the majority of fuqahaa' religious scholars among whom Sufian Al-Thawry, Ibn Al-Mubarak, Al-Shafi'i, Ahmad and Ishaaq.
Al-Albaani has supported this narration by another hadeeth reported by Abu Dawood narrated by Umm Salama who said, "A Prophet's peace and blessings be upon him wife used to remain in a state of nifaas for forty nights and the Prophet would not ask her to make up the prayers she missed during the period of nifaas". Ibn Majah also reported that Anas, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that "The Prophet had specified a period of forty days for the nufasaa' unless she achieves tuhr before that.
Therefore, if a woman experiencing post-childbirth bleeding spent forty days and she still sees blood, then we consider this blood as istihaadha womb bleeding between periods which does not stop a woman from performing prayer salaat nor fasting siyaamunless the end of the forty days coincides with the regular menstrual period dawrah ; in this case she would consider this blood as menstrual blood.

The Shariah has outlined that when someone passes away it is permissible to do acts of charity on his behalf and to make dua and Istighfar for him. Similarly, doing Qurbani and Hajj are all permissible and commendable deeds that can be done on behalf of the deceased.
It is also permissible to recite the Quran and supplicate to Allah to send the blessings to the deceased which is referred to as Isale Thawab. However, for this, the Shariah has not made specific days, months or dates, and has not fixed specific timings for such acts of Isale Thawab. The Shariah has not given any significance to any fixed timing like that of 40 days or 3 days or yearly, and has not given any teaching regarding the observance of any of these practices.
Therefore, it will not be permissible for any Muslim to fix a specific time or amount of days, and then consider this specification to be necessary and required in the Shariah. This is proven from the Quran, Hadith aod rulings of the Jurists Fuqahaa. The Holy Quran has ordered Muslims to make dua for each other. Namaaz-e-Janaazah is made by Muslims for another Muslim. Three important points emerge from this. Completing physical ibaadat namaaz with the intention of passing the reward, i. Isaal-e-Thawaab for someone else is permissible. Passing on the reward Isaal-e-Thawaab by mouth i. Give its reward to this certain individual. With regards to financial ibaadat e. Zakaat and the collection of both physical and financial ibaadat e.
The reward of every act of worship definitely reaches the correct person. This is akin to giving my wealth to another, who then becomes the owner of it. Yes, the difference between wealth and thawaab is that distributed wealth no longer remains with you and the amount becomes less with every added person it is shared with.
However, if you pass on thawaab to a few people, each one of them receives the complete reward including you. This can be understood through the following example — if someone teaches a few people the Holy Quran and all attain its knowledge, still too will the teacher not lose his knowledge.
Refer to Shaami, Vol. Discussion on the Dafn Burying of the Deceased. According to them, these Ahadith establish that the actions of others arc not beneficial to an individual.

There are many interpretations like these for this verse. These are collected and their thawaab is passed on. They then make dua for the reciter and ask for his forgiveness until either dawn or dusk. It confirms that dua is accepted at the time of the Quran being completed khatam. Isaal-e-Thawaab is also a dua. Thus, 1O complete the recitation of the Quran at that time is good.
The book further states. This reveals the source of the practice in some areas of continuously giving out charity in the form of rotis from the day of demise until the seventh day after.
Constantly making Fatiha is also sourced from this.
